Tigard Oregon is located about 20 minutes or 10 to 12 miles south of downtown Portland, easily accessed by Interstate 5. Tigard is located in Washington County and is home to about 50,000 residents. It is about the 12th largest city in the state. Incorporated in 1961, it is still technically part of the Portland Metro area and has several transit stations and public transportation routes to and from downtown.

Tigard is divided into 13 geographic areas around specific elementary schools and major transportation routes. Because of this, it is an extremely popular place to call home for those that work in downtown Portland.

The Tigard – Tualatin district contains 10 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools and both some of the highest ratings for schools in the Portland area. There are several private schools including the Oregon Islamic Academy, Westside Christian high school and the Gaarde Christian school.

There are several company headquarters in Tigard including Consumer Cellular, Gerber Legendary Blades, Lacie, and Stash Tea. Capital One Services is the largest employer followed by the school district.

Homes are approximately $280,000 to about $500,000 with the median home price of $380,000 on average. There are several new homes, new subdivisions and establish townhouse and condominium communities spread out throughout Tigard.

TUALATIN Homes for Sale

Tualatin borders Tigard just a few miles south of downtown in about 30 minutes south of The Center of Portland. It’s also in Washington County but a small portion is located in neighboring Clackamas County. It’s home to about 28,000 residents.

The name was taken from the Tualatin River which flows along most of the city’s northern boundary.
Tualatin is home to Bridgeport Village, and upscale shopping center that opened in 2005. It is designed to be an open air, European-style shopping experience with an 18 screen movie theater and several national and regional chain restaurants and retail stores. It really is the hub of Tualatin and is drawn in many new residents to the area due to its commercialism and close proximity to shops, restaurants and markets. It alleviated the need to head into downtown Portland for gifts or entertainment.

Tualatin has its own jurisdiction, which is also part of the Tigard – Tualatin school district. There are five schools located within the city limits including the Bridgeport Elementary school, Byrom elementary school, Tualatin Elementary, Hazelbrook middle school and Tualatin high school. It also has An Arbor School of Arts and Sciences and an independent K – 8 school.

Home prices in Tualatin I little bit higher than Tigard due to its popularity, low crime and great schools. The median home price is about $400,000 and it also features new construction, condominiums, townhouses and existing resell properties.
